Four anoli recipes that make everything better. Live music reminds me of anolis, they make everything better too. Live music makes the top 5 list of things I miss this year. Chicago has always been a mecca of music to me. I’ve met people who have introduced me to some of my favorite artists and the city has brought many opportunities to see those musicians live. I pray we can figure this shit out and get live music back as soon as possible. But for now, I will share four memories during concerts and festivals. Beautiful memories, like anolis, can make everything better.

September 2013: First year I attended Riot Fest with Morgan. Let me just list some of the acts that were there: The Replacements, Fall Out Boy, Blink-182, Pixies, Blondie, Public Enemy, Sublime with Rome, Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Atmosphere, All Time Low, Against Me!, and The Devil Wears Prada. Those artists in one place is the definition of a 13 year old Anol wet dream. Seeing all those groups with my best friend is something I will never forget.

May 2016: Fresh off the graduation train, Marguerite and I were super stoked to return to Three Sisters Park for Summer Camp. We just had no way to get there. Marguerite had briefly met someone who could maybe give us a ride. Without even giving it a second thought, this person offered us one. That’s when I met Roya, a lifelong friend who’s kindness made 2016 one of the best ‘scamps’ yet. On the best night of that weekend, Marguerite and I were walking around, high off of music (and maybe a couple other things) we wandered and stumbled upon the scariest music I’ve ever heard. Marguerite and I ran away like our life depended on it, giving me a top 5 laugh attack. Research the next day determined that the music was by a dude named Snails. Don’t listen to Snails.

May 2018: The Yeah Yeah Yeahs were doing a reunion tour at my favorite venue, the Aragon. Greer and I attended what would turn into one of my favorite live shows of all time. Karen O is an amazing performer and anyone who gets to see her should jump at the chance.

November 2019: My favorite month of the year because three of my favorite people celebrate their birthdays. Nick, Greer, and myself. These birthdays fall within the same week and we’ve always found a way to party. Last year we kicked off the celebrations with The String Cheese Incident. It was the perfect Chicago night. Cheese puts on the best live shows and it felt incredible to be surrounded by that much love.
